Actor Christina Applegate Credits Breast MRI for Early Cancer Detection
Hollywood actress and producer Christina Applegate (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee and star of ABC-TV’s Samantha Who?) was diagnosed with breast cancer on August
2 and has been undergoing treatment for the past month. Three weeks ago, Applegate, 37, opted to have both breasts removed by a double mastectomy, and she will be undergoing reconstructive surgery over the next eight months. The television star proudly told Good Morning America: "I'm clear…Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean!” Applegate will appear on a September 5 special called “Stand Up to Cancer,” which will air on ABC, CBS, and NBC to raise funds for cancer research. She credits the discovery of her breast cancer to the second of two breast MRIs performed as a follow-up to the biopsy she had last year. Attributing the early cancer detection to the doctor-ordered test, she is now planning a program to help other high-risk women meet the costs of MRI. For more information, click here.
